Lenovo Surpasses Expectations with Strong Quarterly Results, Eyes Growth Through DeepSeek’s AI

Published: 20 Feb 2025, 04:55 am

Lenovo (0992.HK) delivered better-than-expected quarterly results, reporting significant revenue and profit growth, fueled by soaring demand for its AI-powered servers. The company also announced plans to leverage DeepSeek’s AI technology to drive future expansion.

Revenue for the third quarter surged 20% to $18.8 billion, surpassing the LSEG consensus estimate of $17.8 billion. Meanwhile, net profit more than doubled to $693 million, far exceeding the forecasted $367.7 million.

Though primarily known for its personal computers, Lenovo has aggressively diversified into software, cloud services, and AI-driven solutions. The company has positioned itself at the forefront of the AI boom, expanding its AI server and software businesses to capitalize on increasing demand.

Last year, Lenovo launched its first AI-powered PCs in China, followed by a global rollout in September. CEO Yang Yuanqing projects that AI PCs will account for 25% of Lenovo’s shipments by 2025, potentially reaching 80% by 2027.

The company has now integrated DeepSeek’s AI technology—which has disrupted the AI sector with its low-cost, high-efficiency models—into its devices, including PCs and tablets.

DeepSeek has significantly improved AI efficiency. Its models offer high inference efficiency with low computing power costs, making AI more accessible,” Yang told Reuters in a post-earnings interview. He added that DeepSeek’s emergence could also fuel demand for GPU servers.

Lenovo’s Infrastructure Solutions Group, which includes its server business, posted a 59% revenue increase in the December quarter compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, its Solutions and Services Group, which offers cloud-based enterprise software, reported $2.3 billion in revenue, up 12% year-over-year.

With its AI-driven expansion strategy, Lenovo is poised to strengthen its market leadership and capitalize on the growing demand for AI-powered computing solutions. - BEIJING, Feb 20 (Reuters)
