World champion Noah Lyles surged from behind to claim victory in the 200 metres at the US Track and Field Championships held at Hayward Field, Oregon, on Sunday.
Lyles, already guaranteed a spot at the upcoming Tokyo World Championships as the reigning 100m and 200m titleholder, caught up with Kenny Bednarek just before the finish line to secure the win with a world-leading time of 19.63 seconds.
In a moment of competitive tension, Lyles casually glanced over his shoulder to stare down Bednarek as he crossed the line. The two athletes then appeared to engage in a testy exchange immediately after the race.
Bednarek, finishing just behind with a time of 19.67 seconds, reacted by shoving Lyles lightly on the back as both eased up following the final sprint.
Robert Gregory claimed third place with a time of 19.80 seconds.
