Madrasa Teacher Arrested Over Alleged Sexual Assault of Student

Police have arrested a madrasa teacher in Daganbhuiyan, Feni, following allegations of sexually assaulting a young male student in the institution’s residential quarters.

The suspect, identified as Nizam Uddin, was apprehended on Saturday night (5 September) during a targeted raid conducted in the Chowrasta area of Noakhali district. Law enforcement officers tracked him down using advanced technological tracking methods after he went into hiding following the incident. He was produced before a local court on Sunday morning to face formal charges.

According to police reports, the alleged assault took place on the night of 1 August inside the Hefzkhana (Quran memorisation section) of Kaushalya Islamia Hafizia Madrasa in Daganbhuiyan. The victim, a student enrolled at the residential religious school, reportedly disclosed the ordeal to his family weeks later. Following the disclosure, the victim’s father lodged a formal complaint at the Daganbhuiyan Police Station on 29 August, naming Nizam Uddin as the sole accused.

The suspect absconded immediately after the case was registered, prompting law enforcement agencies to launch an investigation to determine his whereabouts. Officers from Daganbhuiyan Police Station coordinated with regional police units and deployed digital intelligence tools to monitor the suspect’s movements before locating him in neighbouring Noakhali.

Confirming the arrest, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Daganbhuiyan Police Station, Faizul Azim Noman, stated that a specialized police team successfully tracked and detained the accused using technological support. He added that the suspect was sent to judicial custody following his initial court appearance, while further investigation into the matter remains ongoing.

Instances of physical and sexual abuse within residential religious institutions across Bangladesh have increasingly drawn public scrutiny in recent years, prompting calls from human rights activists and local communities for stricter administrative oversight, compulsory background checks for educators, and robust child protection measures within residential academies.
