Madrasah Principal Jailed Following Sexual Assault Charge in Lakshmipur

A madrasah principal has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody following allegations of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old student in Lakshmipur. The suspect, identified as Maulana Abdul Ahad, 45, is the head of the Popular Ideal Hifz Madrasah. The arrest took place late on Sunday night, 19 July 2026, directly from the educational institution after local residents intervened. Following formal legal proceedings, he was sent to jail by a local court on Monday afternoon, 20 July.

According to the official complaint lodged by the victim’s family, the incident transpired on Saturday night, 18 July, between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm. The principal allegedly summoned the young student from the Hifz department to his personal quarters inside the madrasah compound, where the assault took place. Traumatised and threatened by the authority figure, the child remained silent through the night.

The following afternoon, the student managed to escape from the residential institution and returned home. Upon arrival, the child broke down in tears and disclosed the details of the ordeal to his mother. As news of the assault spread through the neighbourhood, an incensed group of parents and local residents gathered at the madrasah on Sunday evening to confront the administration. The locals detained the principal on the premises and immediately notified the law enforcement authorities. Officers from the Chandraganj Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, took the suspect into custody, and rescued the young victim.

The victim’s family revealed that the child has suffered severe psychological trauma since the incident. Overwhelmed by panic and anxiety, the student has refused to return to the madrasah or resume his religious education. The distressed family members have demanded an impartial investigation and exemplary punishment for the perpetrator to ensure justice is served.

Abdur Rob, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Police Station, confirmed the development. He stated that the initial police investigation found substance in the allegations made against the principal. A formal case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act was registered following a written complaint by the boy’s mother.

The suspect, Maulana Abdul Ahad, was produced before the Lakshmipur court on Monday, where the magistrate rejected any bail considerations and ordered his transfer to prison. The police chief added that the victim would undergo the necessary medical examinations at the local hospital as part of the evidence-gathering process. Investigating officers are continuing their inquiries to establish the full sequence of events, and further legal steps will be initiated based on the final forensic and evidentiary findings.
