He was arrested by Kaptai Police Station at around 12 noon on Friday (30 October).

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kaptai Police Station, Sheikh Mahmudul Hasan Rubel, said Kajol had confessed to raping the child in a statement given at the police station. He added that further legal proceedings were under way in connection with the case.

According to local sources, Kajol originally comes from Barishal. He has been living permanently in the area surrounding Karnaphuli Government College in Kaptai for approximately 35 years after getting married.

The incident has caused considerable distress for the victim’s family, who have called for strict punishment for the accused. The child’s father said he could not accept what had happened to his young daughter and demanded a fair and impartial investigation to ensure justice.

He urged the administration and law enforcement agencies to take all necessary steps to ensure the accused receives the maximum punishment permitted under the law if found guilty. He also expressed hope that appropriate legal action would help prevent similar incidents and protect other children from such abuse.

Residents have called for a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for anyone found responsible. They have also urged the administration to strengthen child protection measures in the area and take effective steps to prevent sexual violence against children.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of ensuring children’s safety, particularly their protection from sexual abuse and exploitation. Such cases require prompt investigation, appropriate legal action and careful attention to the physical and psychological well-being of the child involved.
