India’s political landscape has been thrown into fresh turmoil following a controversial social media video released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aimed at protesting students. Whilst the Prime Minister extended an olive branch by offering a message of personal forgiveness to the youth, his intentions have been met with swift skepticism. On Friday, 31st July, Prime Minister Modi uploaded the fifth installment of a week-long series of video communications designed to engage directly with the public. Addressing the nationwide student unrest, Modi acknowledged that several young protesters had directed offensive language at him during recent demonstrations, with some even targeting his late mother. Despite the personal insult, the Prime Minister stated that he personally forgave the students involved, asserting that abuse and insults do not resolve complex societal challenges. He further remarked that punitive actions, litigation, and police harassment are ineffective remedies, advocating instead for guiding misled youth back onto the right path.

The video sparked immediate widespread debate across digital platforms, prompting Abhijit Dipke to respond directly in the comments section. Dipke argued that verbal expressions of leniency mean very little unless accompanied by the formal withdrawal of cases registered against the student activists.
