A mother and her daughter were killed in a road accident while visiting the Tangua Haor, a tourist spot in Sunamganj. The incident occurred early Friday morning (24 October) around 5:30 AM near Inatnagar, adjacent to Pagla Bazar in Shantiganj Upazila.
The deceased are Monjura Akter (37) and her daughter Ayesha Siddika (10), residents of Dhaka. Monjura Akter is the wife of Abdullah Al Mamun, an officer of Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC). Mamun is a permanent resident of Doalia village in Chandpur district.
Eyewitnesses said that 11 BCIC officers, along with their families, were traveling from Dhaka to Tangua Haor. They departed in a long-distance bus operated by Sejuti Travels (bus number: 15-6082). Early in the morning, as the bus reached Inatnagar, it lost control and fell into a roadside ditch. The bus overturned, crushing Monjura Akter and her daughter, who died instantly at the scene.
At least 10 other passengers were injured in the accident. Locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex.
Shantiganj Fire Service and local police arrived at the scene for rescue operations.
Suman Kumar Chowdhury, Officer-in-Charge of Joykals Highway Police Station, said, “Upon receiving information, we reached the site and found the bus overturned in a ditch. With the assistance of the Fire Service, the bodies of the deceased were recovered.”
