A 25-year-old day labourer was killed on the spot and two of his co-workers were critically injured after a sand-laden lorry rammed into their motorcycle in Bogura Sadar upazila on Thursday afternoon. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:00 pm near the busy Ghoradhap Hat area.
The deceased has been identified as Doyal Chandra, a resident of Majhihatta Union in Shibganj upazila, Bogura, and the son of Narayan Chandra. The two surviving passengers, identified as Sri Mangal and Sri Sagar, are also local labourers who were travelling on the same motorcycle at the time of the tragic accident.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the three men were heading back to their village in Shibganj after completing their daily manual work. As their motorcycle reached the Ghoradhap Hat section along the highway, a fast-approaching sand lorry struck the rear of their vehicle with considerable force. The violent impact knocked Doyal off the motorcycle and onto the tarmac, where the heavy wheels of the lorry ran over his head, killing him instantly. His two companions were thrown onto the roadside, sustaining multiple severe injuries.
Alarmed by the loud crash, nearby shopkeepers and commuters rushed to the scene to render emergency assistance. They pulled Sri Mangal and Sri Sagar from the roadside and immediately arranged for their transport to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura city, where both men are currently undergoing treatment for serious injuries.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ibrahim Ali confirmed that law enforcement personnel arrived promptly at the site to secure the area. Officers recovered Doyal’s body and dispatched it to the hospital morgue for a mandatory post-mortem examination. While police successfully seized the offending vehicle, the truck driver and his assistant managed to flee the scene on foot immediately after the impact. Authorities have initiated a manhunt to locate the absconding individuals, and formal legal proceedings are actively underway.
