Nawabganj Model Government Primary School in Chapainawabganj has sparked nationwide admiration after achieving an enviable milestone in the primary scholarship examinations. Out of fifty-three students who sat the examination from the institution, fifty-two successfully secured scholarships. This near-perfect success rate includes an impressive forty students gaining the prestigious ‘Talentpool’ status, whilst twelve achieved general grade scholarships.
Latifa Haque, the Headmistress of the school, expressed immense pride in her students. She noted that the remarkable feat was the direct outcome of a synchronised partnership between teachers, pupils, and parents. According to the school administration, regular structured lessons, specialised preparatory classes, and meticulous individual monitoring of each student’s academic weaknesses were key factors behind the record-breaking results.
Data released by the Chapainawabganj District Primary Education Office reveals a broader trend across the region’s five sub-districts. A total of 963 students from various state schools and private kindergartens secured scholarships. Out of these, 420 students attained Talentpool status, and 543 were placed in the general grade.
State-run institutions significantly outshone their private counterparts in the final tally. Government primary schools secured 763 of the total scholarships, with 340 students clinching Talentpool spots and 423 entering the general grade. Conversely, private kindergartens across the entire district managed to secure only 200 scholarships in total.
Md Saiful Islam, the Chapainawabganj District Primary Education Officer, highly commended the academic standards of the state schools. He stated that the performance of government primary school students after a prolonged hiatus of the scholarship programme was exceptionally encouraging. He described the achievement of Nawabganj Model Government Primary School as an extraordinary record for the district, emphasizing that even the single student who missed out on the scholarship was a highly gifted pupil.
The primary scholarship examination took place across twelve designated centres in the district on 15 April. Out of 8,248 registered students, 5,838 candidates ultimately appeared for the assessment. In accordance with the guidelines of the Directorate of Primary Education, students receiving Talentpool scholarships will be awarded a monthly stipend of 600 Taka. Those in the general grade category will receive 450 Taka per month. All successful recipients will also be awarded a special certificate of merit by the government to honour their academic dedication.
