Police Seize 9,150 Yaba Tablets Hidden in Boalkhali Cowshed

Law enforcement personnel have recovered 9,150 yaba tablets from a cowshed beside a residential property in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram and arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the seizure.

The suspect, identified as Taslim, was detained during an operation conducted by CPC-3 of SRB-07 on Thursday (22 October). The drugs were recovered at approximately 8:30 pm from his family home in Akubdandi village under Popadia Union.

Taslim is the son of Zafar Ahmed, a resident of Abdur Rahman Ghosh Bari in Akubdandi village.

According to sources at CPC-3 of SRB-07, the operation began after officers received confidential information concerning the suspect. Acting on the intelligence, a team initially detained Taslim outside a showroom in the Chandgaon area of Chattogram city.

During questioning, Taslim reportedly provided information that led officers to his residence in Boalkhali. The team subsequently travelled to Akubdandi village and searched the property.

Officers discovered 9,150 yaba tablets inside a cowshed situated beside the main residential building. The tablets were seized, and Taslim was taken into custody in connection with the recovery.

Following the operation, the suspect and the seized narcotics were handed over to Boalkhali Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Sub-Inspector Ningwai Marma of Boalkhali Police Station confirmed the handover, saying that CPC-3 of SRB-07 had transferred Taslim to the police along with the recovered 9,150 yaba tablets.

Inspector (Investigation) Md Nurul Alam of Boalkhali Police Station said a case had been filed against the suspect under the Narcotics Control Act.

He confirmed that Taslim was produced before a court on Friday (23 October), the day after the seizure.

Yaba is a synthetic stimulant drug typically containing methamphetamine and caffeine. Its possession, distribution and trafficking are criminal offences under Bangladesh’s narcotics legislation, with penalties depending on the nature and circumstances of the offence.

The recovery involved two separate locations. Taslim was initially detained in Chandgaon, while the narcotics were subsequently discovered at his village residence in Boalkhali. According to the authorities, information obtained during questioning was central to locating the tablets.

The discovery of such a substantial quantity of drugs in a structure adjoining a residential building raises questions about their origin and intended destination. However, officials have not disclosed where the tablets were obtained or whether they were intended for distribution within the locality or elsewhere.

No information has been provided about the estimated market value of the seized narcotics. Authorities have also not confirmed whether other individuals are suspected of involvement in the alleged offence.

The case will proceed under the relevant provisions of the Narcotics Control Act. Any wider links to drug distribution or trafficking would need to be established through further investigation.

Police have confirmed the seizure, arrest and court appearance, but the allegations against Taslim remain subject to judicial proceedings.
