Death Toll Rises to 23 in Daulatdia Ferry Bus Tragedy

The death toll from the bus accident at Daulatdia Ferry Ghat in Rajbari has risen to 23, authorities confirmed on Thursday morning. Among the victims are 11 women, 8 children, and 4 men. Of these, 21 bodies have already been handed over to their families, while the remaining two are awaiting collection.

Details of the Tragic Accident

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, around 5:15 pm, when a bus operated by Souhardya Paribahan, travelling from Kushtia to Dhaka, lost control while boarding the No. 3 pontoon at the Daulatdia Ferry Ghat and plunged into the Padma River.

Rajbari’s Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration & Finance) Tapas Kumar Pal and Deputy Collector of the District Commissioner’s Office Md. Hafizur Rahman confirmed the fatalities on Thursday morning.

Deputy Collector Md. Hafizur Rahman stated that search and rescue operations had recovered 23 bodies to date. Most were delivered to their families on the night of the tragedy, with the remaining two to be handed over upon family arrival.

The accident has left the local community in shock, highlighting ongoing concerns regarding ferry safety along the Padma River. Authorities have urged bus and ferry operators to ensure stricter safety protocols to prevent such disasters in the future.
