The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning forecasting adverse weather conditions across 19 districts, with the possibility of strong gusty winds reaching up to 60 kilometres per hour accompanied by rain or thunderstorms by evening.

According to the latest inland riverine weather bulletin, valid from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, a broad swathe of the country is expected to experience temporary squally weather conditions. The system is likely to be influenced by active atmospheric disturbances, producing sudden bursts of wind from the west or north-west direction.

The Met Office has advised that inland river ports in the affected regions hoist Warning Signal No. 1, indicating caution for river navigation due to potentially unstable weather. Small vessels, passenger ferries, and cargo boats have been particularly urged to exercise heightened vigilance, as sudden gusts and thunderstorms may reduce visibility and create hazardous conditions on waterways.

Meteorologists further noted that wind speeds may vary between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour in affected areas. Although the severe weather is expected to be temporary in nature, it may still cause disruptions to transport, agriculture, and daily outdoor activities.

Affected Regions and Expected Conditions

The districts under warning span northern, central, western, and coastal zones of the country. These include:

Officials emphasised that such weather patterns are common during transitional atmospheric phases, particularly when moisture-laden air masses interact with regional wind systems. These interactions often lead to convective cloud formation, triggering thunderstorms and brief but intense wind events.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, especially in open areas, near riverbanks, and under unstable structures during the warning period. Farmers have also been advised to take protective measures for harvested crops and to avoid field activities during periods of active thunderstorms.

The Meteorological Department stated that it is continuously monitoring the situation and will issue further updates if weather conditions intensify or persist beyond the forecast period. River users and coastal communities have been specifically asked to stay alert and follow official advisories to minimise risks associated with sudden weather changes.
