Six men have been taken into custody in Daganbhuiyan, Feni, following allegations that a 25-year-old woman was abducted, tied up, and subjected to an attempted gang assault alongside her husband. The incident unfolded on Saturday, 5 September, prompting the victim to lodge a formal case at the local police station under the Violence Against Women and Children Prevention Act, naming nine individuals alongside several unidentified accomplices.
According to the official police statement, the victim and her husband, Masud, were traveling from Chattogram to their home village of Madhya Bagya in Char Jabbar, Noakhali, using their own auto-rickshaw on Friday, 4 September. At around midnight, the couple stopped at an auto-rickshaw charging garage along Fazileghat Road in Daganbhuiyan after their vehicle’s battery depleted. Leaving his wife inside the garage to rest after the long journey, Masud stepped out to buy food from a nearby eatery.
Taking advantage of his absence, a group of men intercepted the woman and her returning husband. The suspects—identified in the case file as Abul Bashar, 42; Md Rashed; Md Zakir Hossain, 19; Abdul Mannan, 29; Delwar Hossain, 24; Shahedul Islam, 19; Shahriar Noman, 19; Jaker Hossain, 19; and Md Shakil, 18—allegedly abducted the couple and forcibly moved them to a residence in Jagatpur.
The assailants bound the husband and tore at the woman’s clothing in an attempt to assault her, ignoring her desperate pleas for mercy. The couple were subsequently taken to an under-construction building in the same village, where their hands and feet were tied. The complaint states that Bashar aided the attempted assault around 1:30 am while the group kept the couple restrained.
During the ordeal, the attackers robbed the couple of two smartphones, gold jewellery, a portable soundbox, and a table fan, while also severing the wiring of their auto-rickshaw battery to prevent escape. Before fleeing, the group threatened to kill the couple if they disclosed the incident.
Police intervened after receiving word of the crime, rescuing the couple and initiating a crackdown. Daganbhuiyan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Fayzul Azim Noman confirmed that law enforcement moved swiftly to rescue the victims and arrest six named suspects. Addressing queries regarding forensic examinations, he clarified that medical tests were not conducted because the complaint cited attempted assault rather than completed rape, and no statement alleging rape was recorded. The incident has sparked widespread outcry across social media platforms, with citizens demanding swift justice.
