Police in Chattogram’s Sitakunda upazila have detained six activists affiliated with the Bangladesh Chhatra League after dispersing a flash procession on Friday afternoon. Law enforcement officers intervened as the group attempted to stage a demonstration near Bridge No. 5 on the Faujdarhat-Bayezid Link Road.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as Jamshed, 30, and Shakib, 24, both from the Noapara area of Raozan; Sabbir Hossain, 24, from Kachukhain in Raozan; Mamunur Rahman Maruf, 22, residing in Baluchhara under Bayezid police station; Arman, 24, from Fatepur in Hathazari; and Adnan Habib, 21, hailing from Natunpara in the Chikandandi Union of Hathazari upazila.
According to local law enforcement, a group of Chhatra League activists assembled along the bypass preliminary interrogation corridor in an effort to launch an unannounced procession. Upon receiving information regarding the gathering, a police team dispatched from Sitakunda Model Police Station alongside officers from the nearby Faujdarhat outpost moved swiftly to the location.
Inspector Rubel Afrad, in-charge of the Faujdarhat police outpost, confirmed that officers chased down the gathering as soon as they arrived. Whilst several participants managed to flee the scene upon spotting the police presence, officers apprehended six men on the spot.
Authorities are preparing to file charges against the six detainees under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Police confirmed that all six individuals are currently undergoing preliminary interrogation at the police station, after which they will be produced before a Chattogram court for formal judicial proceedings. Operations remain ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining participants who managed to escape during the raid.
