A female college student in Sujanagar upazila of Pabna has reportedly been staying at the home of her alleged boyfriend for seven consecutive days, demanding that he marry her. According to local sources, the accused, Tahzid Hossain Biplob Molla, has remained absent from the area since news of the student’s protest became public.
As of Saturday, 6 June, the student was still present at the residence in Ulat Mollapara village under Manikhat Union. Biplob is the son of Malaysia-based expatriate Shafi Molla and is a student of Pabna Polytechnic Institute. The young woman is a student of Bonkola College in Sujanagar.
The student began a hunger strike at the residence on Sunday. She stated that a romantic relationship had developed between them approximately two years ago.
According to her allegations, Biplob repeatedly engaged in physical relations with her after promising marriage. She claimed that they travelled together on several occasions and that she possesses photographs and other evidence relating to their relationship. She further alleged that Biplob is now refusing to marry her, leaving her in a difficult and distressing situation.
The student said that marriage to Biplob was, in her view, the only way to protect her social standing. She also stated that she would consider taking her own life if he ultimately refused to marry her.
The student’s father has submitted a written complaint to the local police station regarding the matter. He alleged that his daughter had been deceived through promises of marriage and said that the accused was now evading responsibility by remaining out of reach. He called for a fair investigation and appropriate justice.
Local social worker Santu Molla said that both the young man and the young woman are from the same village. After learning of the dispute, local community representatives, members of both families and relatives reportedly held a mediation meeting. According to him, the parties had agreed that the couple would be married within a week. However, he later learned that the young man had gone into hiding.
Biplob’s mother, Beauty Khatun, said that because her son was not at home, she had felt compelled to provide food and accommodation for the student while she remained at the residence. She also claimed that there had previously been a land-related dispute between the two families.
Pabna Assistant Superintendent of Police (Sujanagar Circle), Sadiq Ahmed, confirmed that a written complaint had been received from the student’s family. He said that the allegations would be investigated and that legal action would be taken in accordance with the findings of the inquiry.
