A young man lost his life in the early hours of Sunday morning in Jhenaidah after suffering a fatal electric shock, in what local authorities suspect was an attempted theft of live power lines. The incident took place at Uttarpara in Bishaikhali village, leaving residents startled as news of the electrocution spread across the sub-district.

The deceased has been identified as Rocky, a resident of nearby Kanuharpur village and the son of the late Abdur Razzak. According to police reports and accounts from local villagers, Rocky’s body was discovered lying in a grassy field in the northern neighbourhood of Bishaikhali village at daybreak. Locals who stumbled upon the lifeless body immediately notified law enforcement authorities.

Upon receiving the call, a team from Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station arrived at the scene to secure the area and retrieve the body. Preliminary investigations conducted by the police indicate that the youth was electrocuted while attempting to cut and steal high-voltage electrical wiring during the cover of night. The body has since been dispatched to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for a formal post-mortem examination.

Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station, Asaduzzaman, confirmed the recovery of the body and stated that standard legal procedures are underway. Incidents of electrical wire theft have grown into a persistent hazard across rural districts, where criminals frequently target overhead lines to strip and sell copper and aluminium on the black market. These illegal attempts carry extreme risks, often resulting in severe grid disruptions, widespread power outages, and fatal industrial accidents. Police have noted that an unnatural death case is being registered while investigators examine whether any accomplices were involved in the botched operation.
