Bangladesh have consolidated their position against Pakistan in the second Test match at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Having secured a 46-run first-innings advantage, the home side finished the second day of play on 110 runs for the loss of three wickets, establishing an overall lead of 156 runs ahead of the third morning.
On Monday, the host nation resumed their second innings with the captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, returning to the crease on 13 not out. The previous day’s play had concluded immediately following the dismissal of Mominul Haque for 30 runs, which brought an end to the final session. Shanto was joined on the third morning by the veteran batsman Mushfiqur Rahim.
The partnership was broken in the fifth over of the morning session. In the 31st over of the innings, Shanto was trapped leg before wicket (LBW) by Pakistan’s fast bowler, Khurram Shahzad. The captain opted for a tactical review via the Decision Review System (DRS), but the television umpire upheld the original on-field ruling. Shanto was dismissed for 15 runs from 46 deliveries, leaving Bangladesh at 115 for four.
Following the dismissal of the captain, wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das joined Mushfiqur Rahim at the crease. The pair successfully negotiated the Pakistani bowling attack to extend the hosts’ overall advantage.
The benchmark of a 200-run lead was passed on the third delivery of the 41st over. A single scored by Litton Das pushed the cumulative advantage past the milestone, bringing the home side to 154 runs for the loss of four wickets.
The progress of the international fixture up to the mid-session of Day Three is outlined in the data table below:
| Match Phase | Innings Details | Performance Milestones | Strategic Impact |
| First Innings | Bangladesh: 278 All Out | Litton Das 126; Khurram Shahzad 4-81 | Bangladesh bat 77 overs |
| First Innings | Pakistan: 232 All Out | Babar Azam 68; Nahid Rana 3-60 | Pakistan dismissed in 57.4 overs |
| Innings Margin | Bangladesh: 46-run Lead | First-innings deficit for Pakistan | Sets statistical base for second innings |
| Day 2 Stumps | Bangladesh: 110/3 | Mahmudul Hasan Joy 52 | Aggregate lead reaches 156 runs |
| Day 3 Progress | Bangladesh: 154/4 | Lead exceeds 200 runs | Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim remain at the crease |
This two-match series stands at 1-0 in favour of the hosts, following a 104-run victory for Bangladesh in the opening Test match at the Sher-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. The current accumulation of runs in Sylhet places the home side in a favorable position to set a substantial fourth-innings target.
