Taka Holds Firm as Central Bank Releases Daily Exchange Rates

The local financial sector continues to observe steady movement in foreign currency valuations, with the central bank publishing the official foreign exchange rates for Tuesday, 15 September 2026. According to figures provided by Bangladesh Bank, the Bangladeshi Taka (BDT) maintains a relatively tight trading corridor across major global reserve currencies, reflecting prevailing interbank demand and liquidity conditions across the domestic market.

The US Dollar, which remains the primary baseline for international trade settlements in the country, has been fixed at a buying rate of Tk 123.16 and a selling rate of Tk 123.20. Meanwhile, the British Pound Sterling (GBP) leads the higher-value major currencies, trading at a buying rate of Tk 166.49 and a selling price of Tk 166.57. Euro transactions follow closely, with commercial banks purchasing the European currency at Tk 142.84 and selling at Tk 142.93.

Trade-linked regional and Asian currencies have also seen their daily figures benchmarked:

  • British Pound (GBP): Buying at Tk 166.49 | Selling at Tk 166.57

  • Euro (EUR): Buying at Tk 142.84 | Selling at Tk 142.93

  • United States Dollar (USD): Buying at Tk 123.16 | Selling at Tk 123.20

  • Singapore Dollar (SGD): Buying at Tk 97.19 | Selling at Tk 97.22

  • Australian Dollar (AUD): Buying at Tk 88.28 | Selling at Tk 88.35

  • Chinese Yuan (CNY): Buying at Tk 18.35 | Selling at Tk 18.36

  • Indian Rupee (INR): Buying at Tk 1.29 | Selling at Tk 1.29

  • Japanese Yen (JPY): Buying at Tk 0.80 | Selling at Tk 0.80

Fluctuations in cross-rates remain particularly important for commercial importers, overseas workers remitting funds, and export-oriented businesses. Currency dealers note that while major Western currencies continue to reflect broader macroeconomic shifts, Asian regional currencies such as the Indian Rupee, Chinese Yuan, and Japanese Yen offer essential cost indicators for regional supply chain imports. Remittance senders and businesses are advised to confirm real-time conversion margins directly with authorised dealer banks, as individual commercial bank rates may vary slightly based on retail transaction fees and specific trade volumes.
