The Central Bank of Bangladesh, alongside commercial banking institutions across the country, released the official foreign exchange rates for major currencies on Monday, 19 October 2026. Financial institutions are maintaining structured spreads between buying and selling figures to stabilize international trade transactions, foreign remittances, and commercial clearing operations.
According to the latest banking benchmarks, the US dollar (USD) stands at a buying rate of 123.55 taka and a selling rate of 123.58 taka. The narrow margin reflects ongoing efforts to ensure liquidity across domestic foreign exchange counters and manage import settlement balances smoothly.
European and British currencies continue to show slight variations across commercial banks depending on transaction volumes and treasury management strategies. The European euro (EUR) is trading between 142.37 taka and 143.90 taka, while the British pound sterling (GBP) ranges from 165.89 taka to 167.71 taka. Meanwhile, the Australian dollar (AUD) has been pegged at 86.24 taka for daily retail and commercial exchanges.
Middle Eastern currencies remain under close observation due to their significant role in inward worker remittances, a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s foreign currency reserves. The Saudi riyal (SAR) is currently trading at approximately 32.00 taka, while the United Arab Emirates dirham (AED) rests at roughly 33.00 taka.
Foreign exchange fluctuations directly influence the country’s macroeconomic balance, affecting the cost of essential imports such as petroleum, agricultural inputs, and industrial raw materials. At the same time, stable cross-currency valuations help ensure that Bangladeshi expatriates sending money home to their families receive fair value, supporting domestic household consumption and strengthening foreign reserves. Commercial banks will adjust these rates in subsequent trading sessions in response to international market movements and local demand patterns.
