Three Dhaka Police Stations Get New Officers-in-Charge

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has appointed new officers-in-charge (OCs) to three police stations in the capital, while transferring six police inspectors to different units as part of an administrative reshuffle.

The changes were announced in an order issued on Wednesday, 30 July, signed by DMP Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters and Administration) Md Shahriar Ali.

Under the order, Yasin Mia, police inspector (unarmed) and investigation officer at Cantonment Police Station, has been appointed as the new OC of Ramna Police Station. His appointment places him in charge of one of the capital’s key police stations, where maintaining public order, responding to criminal incidents and overseeing investigations are among the core responsibilities of the station leadership.

Md Azharul Islam, an unarmed police inspector serving in the Cyber Special Crime North Division of the Detective Branch (DB), has been appointed OC of Kamrangirchar Police Station. His transfer from a specialised cybercrime unit to a frontline police station represents a change in operational responsibility, moving him from an investigative role focused on digital offences to broader policing duties within a busy urban area.

Another inspector from the same DB division, Md Nazrul Islam, has been appointed OC of Shyampur Police Station.

The reshuffle also affects the outgoing heads of the three stations. Ramna Police Station OC Md Rahat Khan has been transferred to the City Intelligence Analysis Division of the DMP. Kamrangirchar Police Station OC Golam Faruk has been posted to the DB’s Cyber Special Crime North Division, while Shyampur Police Station OC Md Mahmudur Rahman has been transferred to the Counter Terrorism Investigation Division of the DMP.

The latest appointments and transfers are part of routine personnel management within the metropolitan police force. Such changes can involve moving officers between general policing, intelligence, cybercrime and counter-terrorism assignments, allowing the department to deploy personnel according to operational requirements and administrative priorities.

The DMP is responsible for policing the capital and operates through a network of police stations and specialised units. Officers-in-charge play a central role at the station level, overseeing law enforcement, crime prevention, case investigations and coordination with other police units.

The order did not provide details about the specific reasons behind the transfers or indicate when the newly appointed officers would formally assume their respective responsibilities. The changes, however, bring new leadership to three police stations while placing the outgoing officers in different specialised and intelligence-related units of the metropolitan police force.
