Three Youth Death Toll in Tragic Highway Stunt Crash

Three young men, including two brothers, lost their lives in a horrific road accident on Friday evening whilst performing reckless motorcycle stunts on a regional highway in Rajshahi’s Mohanpur upazila.

The fatal collision occurred around 8:45 pm on 31 July along the Rajshahi-Naogaon Highway, directly in front of the main entrance of Kesharhat Degree College.

The deceased have been identified as Kaium Islam Ratul, 18, and his elder brother Swadhin Islam, 22—both sons of Rafiz Uddin hailing from Sakoa village under Kesharhat Municipality. The third victim was identified as Limon Hossain, 22, son of Shafiqul Islam, a resident of nearby Singhamara village.

Police and local eyewitnesses reported that the three youths were sharing a single motorcycle, travelling at high speed towards their destination. Witnesses described the vehicle swerving repeatedly across lanes in a dangerous zig-zag pattern, locally known as performing “bauli” stunts. As they navigated the stretch near Kesharhat College, a speeding sand-laden dumper truck coming from Naogaon collided head-on with the motorcycle, running over the occupants.

The impact proved instantly fatal for Ratul and Limon, who died at the scene. Swadhin sustained catastrophic injuries and was rushed by bystanders to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). Despite immediate medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after admission.

Sabina Yasmin, Additional Superintendent of Rajshahi District Police, confirmed the details on Saturday afternoon. She noted that preliminary investigations corroborated witness accounts of stunt-riding prior to the collision. The driver of the dumper truck fled the scene immediately following the accident, and police operations are currently underway to trace the vehicle and apprehend the driver.

Post-mortem examinations were conducted at the RMCH morgue on Saturday morning, after which the bodies were handed over to the grieving families for burial. Mohanpur Police Station has officially registered a case regarding the incident, with formal legal proceedings now in motion.

Tragedies of this nature underscore the escalating danger of reckless driving, triple-riding, and stunt performances by teenagers on Bangladesh’s regional highways. Heavy vehicles, particularly sand-transporting dumper trucks, frequently operate at excessive speeds along these corridors, turning dangerous maneuvers into immediate fatalities.
