The national meteorological authorities have forecast rain accompanied by thunderstorms in several parts of the country over the next twenty-four hours, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms. According to the latest weather bulletin, temperatures across the country are also expected to fall slightly during this period.
The forecast, issued at nine o’clock on Saturday morning and covering the subsequent twenty-four hours, indicates that atmospheric conditions remain favourable for unstable weather. Meteorologists report that an extended trough of low pressure currently lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas. Meanwhile, the seasonal low-pressure system continues to persist over the southern part of the Bay of Bengal. The combined influence of these systems is expected to trigger cloud development and scattered rainfall across many regions.
Under the prevailing conditions, several districts in the divisions of Mymensingh and Sylhet are likely to experience rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. In addition, isolated locations within the divisions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram may also witness temporary spells of rain or thunderstorms. In some areas, these storms could be accompanied by sporadic hail.
Meteorologists warn that such weather patterns are typical during seasonal transitions, when warm surface temperatures interact with moist air masses rising from the Bay of Bengal. These interactions can produce rapidly forming cumulonimbus clouds capable of generating lightning, heavy showers and occasional hail. Although the storms are expected to be scattered rather than widespread, residents are advised to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to sudden gusts of wind or lightning strikes.
In addition to rainfall, the weather office predicts a slight drop in both daytime and night-time temperatures across the country. The expected cooling is largely attributed to increased cloud cover and intermittent precipitation, which reduce the intensity of solar heating during the day and allow cooler air to circulate at night.
Data recorded over the past twenty-four hours indicate notable variations in weather conditions across different districts. The highest temperature during this period was recorded in Jashore, while the largest amount of rainfall was observed in Sylhet.
Recent Weather Observations
| Location | Weather Indicator | Recorded Value |
|---|---|---|
| Jashore | Highest temperature | 36.4 degrees Celsius |
| Sylhet | Highest rainfall | 83 millimetres |
Weather specialists note that rainfall in Sylhet reflects the region’s tendency to receive heavier precipitation due to its geographical position near the northeastern hills, where moist air often rises and condenses more rapidly.
Overall, while the expected rainfall may provide temporary relief from recent heat, meteorologists advise people to stay alert for sudden thunderstorms, lightning and possible hail in affected regions.
