Tourist Dies In Five-Star Hotel Swimming Pool At Cox’s Bazar

A holiday ended in tragedy in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, after a tourist died while swimming in the pool of a five-star resort along the Marine Drive.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the Hotel Bay Watch resort near Inani Beach. The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old Miraj Ahmad, a resident of Munshiganj district. Law enforcement officials suspect he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest whilst in the water.

Ahmad had arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Monday alongside his wife and child for a two-day family getaway. The family checked into the Hotel Bay Watch resort located near the picturesque Inani coastal belt. At around 3:00 pm on Tuesday, Ahmad entered the hotel’s outdoor swimming pool accompanied by his family members.

Eyewitnesses and resort staff noted that Ahmad suddenly lost consciousness shortly after stepping into the pool. Alerted by his family, resort employees quickly pulled him out of the water and arranged immediate transport to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. However, attending doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Speaking to the our representative, Atiqur Rahman Majumder, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ukhiya Police Station, stated that initial findings indicate Ahmad suffered sudden cardiac arrest whilst swimming. Discussions with surviving relatives confirmed that Ahmad had a pre-existing medical history of heart disease, which likely contributed to his sudden collapse in the water.

Local police have registered an unnatural death case at Ukhiya Police Station to document the incident officially. Following a formal request submitted by the bereaved family and with no suspicious circumstances identified surrounding the fatality, authorities waived the requirement for an autopsy. Ahmad’s body was subsequently handed over to his family members on Wednesday for transport back to Munshiganj for burial.
