Police in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, have launched a homicide investigation after recovering the bound and sacked body of a local scrap metal merchant from a marshland behind a pharmaceutical facility in Kanchpur.

The victim, identified as Ayub Hossain, was the son of Altaf Hossain, a resident of Kanchpur Uttarpara. Hossain operated a scrap trading business in the area and had been reported missing by his family since Tuesday evening. Following an exhaustive overnight search by relatives that yielded no clues, local residents spotted a suspicious floating gunny sack in a marsh located directly behind the Jalalabad Pharmaceutical Company building on Wednesday morning.

Alarmed by the sight, community members alerted the authorities. A team from Sonargaon Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Abdul Barik, swiftly attended the scene to retrieve the floating package. Upon opening the sack, officers discovered Hossain’s body with his hands and feet tightly bound.

The remains were transported to the Narayanganj District Hospital morgue for a formal post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause and time of death. Investigators have detained a security guard, named Jamil Hossain, for questioning to assist with early inquiries into the victim’s final whereabouts and potential motives behind the killing.

Narayanganj Circle-B Additional Superintendent of Police, Dipankar Ghosh, confirmed that while the exact circumstances surrounding the murder remain unclear, a thorough criminal investigation is underway. Formal legal proceedings and the filing of a murder case are currently being processed at Sonargaon Police Station.

The tragic discovery has heightened security concerns amongst residents in Kanchpur, an industrial hub in Narayanganj known for frequent commercial disputes and law enforcement challenges. Police have assured the public that additional details will be made available once the autopsy report is completed and further witness statements are taken.
