A devastating incident unfolded in the Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur on Wednesday morning, as an eighteen-month-old child lost her life after slipping into a water-filled pit near her home.
The tragedy occurred at approximately 8:00 AM in Deokhara village, located within the jurisdiction of the No. 3 Murshidhat Union. The victim has been identified as little Neha, the daughter of Gopal Chandra Roy.
According to local accounts, the toddler was playing outside the family homestead when she inadvertently wandered towards an accumulated water pit and fell in. Moments later, family members realized she was missing and launched an urgent search of the surrounding area. Upon discovering her in the water, they rushed her without delay to the Bochaganj Upazila Health Complex.
However, medical efforts proved futile. Upon arrival, the duty medical officer examined the child and formally pronounced her dead. Dr Abdullah Ibn Enam, the acting resident medical officer at the health complex, confirmed the grim details of the fatality.
Officer-in-Charge duties at Bochaganj Police Station were managed by Sub-Inspector Mohbar Rahman, who verified the drowning incident to local authorities.
“This accident happened entirely due to a moment of oversight,” stated Nabin Chandra Roy, the uncle of the deceased child, as the family prepared for the final funeral rites.
