Rail services in Kurigram were temporarily suspended on Thursday afternoon following a collision between a motorcycle and the Rangpur-bound Romna Commuter train. The incident occurred near the Technical College railway line in Rajarhat, causing mechanical failure in the train and disrupting operations on the route.

Eyewitnesses reported that as the Romna Commuter train was en route to Rangpur, it struck a motorcycle parked alongside the railway line near the Technical College. The impact caused the motorcycle to shatter into several pieces and damaged key components of the train, including the engine's main reservoir pipe, which subsequently led to engine malfunction.

Immediate safety protocols were enacted, and train operations were halted to prevent further complications. Train Director Md. Kibria explained that preliminary inspections revealed several derailment risks, including damage to multiple bogies and the main reservoir pipe of the engine. “We have observed damage to a few wheel assemblies and the engine’s main reservoir pipe. Additional damage is suspected in other areas. Operating the train in this condition is not feasible,” he stated.

The railway authorities confirmed that alternative rolling stock would be deployed to remove the affected train from the line. Once cleared, normal services on the route are expected to resume shortly, though temporary disruptions are anticipated in the meantime.

Authorities have also advised commuters to remain patient and use alternative transport arrangements where possible until the line is fully operational. Emergency response teams arrived at the scene promptly to manage the situation and ensure the safety of passengers and bystanders.
