Two young brothers have died after drowning in a lake at Deobhog Jallapara City Park in Narayanganj city, Bangladesh. Local residents recovered their bodies from the water late on Friday night at approximately 12:30 am.
The deceased were identified as Al Amin, aged 10, and Ibrahim, aged 8. They were the sons of Shah Alam, a rickshaw puller. The family resides in the Kashipur Khilmarket area under Narayanganj Sadar Upazila.
According to their father, Shah Alam, the two children left home in the afternoon saying they were going to attend a fair. They did not return afterwards and were reported missing. The family and local residents searched for them throughout the evening but were unable to trace their whereabouts.
Later at night, their clothing, including a Punjabi-style tunic and shoes, was found near the edge of the lake. This discovery raised suspicion among local people, who subsequently initiated a search of the water body. During the search operation, the body of Al Amin was recovered first, followed shortly afterwards by the body of Ibrahim.
After being retrieved from the lake, both children were taken to Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital. On arrival, the attending doctors declared them dead.
Police confirmed the incident as a drowning case. Additional Superintendent of Police (A Circle) of Narayanganj, Md Hasinuzzaman, stated that two children had died after drowning in the lake. No further official details regarding the circumstances of the incident were provided beyond the confirmation of death by drowning.
