A tragic road traffic accident in the Purbadhala Upazila of Netrokona district has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left three others seriously injured. The incident, involving a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, occurred on the morning of Saturday, 2 May.
The collision took place at approximately 08:00 BST in the Ilashpur area, situated adjacent to the Purbadhala Fire Service office on the Shyamganj-Birishiri Highway. According to law enforcement officials and local witnesses, a passenger bus operated by ‘Allah Dan’ Transport was en route from Durgapur to Mymensingh. Simultaneously, a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw was travelling from Mymensingh when the two vehicles collided head-on.
The impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the immediate death of one passenger at the scene. Emergency responders from the Purbadhala Fire Service arrived shortly after to initiate rescue operations and transport the injured to the nearest medical facility.
One of the deceased has been identified as Aynal Haque, aged 57, son of the late Kasem Ali, residing in South Kaldoar village under Purbadhala Upazila. The second fatality involved an unidentified male, estimated to be approximately 50 years of age, who succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex.
Among the three individuals injured is a medical professional currently stationed at the local health complex. The victims are receiving medical attention for various degrees of trauma sustained during the impact.

Following the incident, the driver of the ‘Allah Dan’ transport bus fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Police have seized the bus and are currently conducting operations to locate and apprehend the driver.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Purbadhala Police Station, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed that the bodies of the deceased have been recovered. He stated that efforts are underway to identify the second deceased victim through fingerprinting or local enquiries. The OC further noted that legal proceedings regarding the accident are currently being processed, and a formal case is expected to be filed in accordance with the Road Transport Act.
The Shyamganj-Birishiri Highway, a vital link for the transport of minerals and passengers in the region, saw temporary disruptions in traffic flow following the crash, though police managed to clear the wreckage and restore normal transit shortly after the initial investigation at the site.
