Police have recovered the bodies of two unidentified men from the Shahbagh area of the capital, Dhaka. The deceased are estimated to be around 65 and 45 years of age. Authorities have not yet been able to ascertain their identities.
The recoveries took place on Saturday afternoon from the footpath adjacent to the National Eidgah Ground and the nearby Kadam Fountain intersection. Sub-Inspector Toufiq Hasan of Shahbagh Police Station confirmed the incident to the press.
According to police reports, local passers-by noticed the two men lying unconscious on the pavement near the High Court Shrine and the National Eidgah. Concerned by their unresponsiveness, citizens alerted the local police station. A team from Shahbagh Police Station responded to the scene, secured the area, and rushed both individuals to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Upon arrival, the attending physicians conducted examinations and declared both men dead.
The bodies have since been transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
Providing preliminary details, Sub-Inspector Toufiq Hasan stated that both individuals appeared to be vagrants who lived on the streets. Officers suspect that prolonged illness or physical hardship may have caused their deaths. However, law enforcement officials emphasised that the exact cause of death will only be conclusively determined once the official autopsy reports are released.
To break the deadlock over their identities, the police have requested assistance from the Forensic Crime Scene Team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Forensic experts are expected to collect fingerprint samples and leverage national biometric databases to help identify the deceased and notify any surviving family members.
