UK Prime Minister Hails Gaza Ceasefire as “Moment of Profound Relief”

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Thursday welcomed the announcement of a new ceasefire deal in Gaza, describing it as “a moment of profound relief that will be felt all around the world.”

In a statement, Starmer emphasised the role of international diplomacy in securing the agreement: “I am grateful for the tireless diplomatic efforts of Egypt, Qatar, Turkiye (Turkey) and the United States, supported by our regional partners, in securing this crucial first step.”

He underlined the urgent need for the deal to be fully implemented without delay and called for the immediate lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid: “This agreement must now be implemented in full, without delay, and accompanied by the immediate lifting of all restrictions on life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza.”

The UK leader’s statement reflects the broader international concern for the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the hope that the ceasefire will pave the way for lasting peace and relief for civilians affected by the conflict.
