Venus and Serena Williams Reunite for Cincinnati Open Doubles

Legendary American tennis duo Venus Williams and Serena Williams are set to reunite on the doubles court after four years, coming out of retirement to feature in competitive tennis.

Organisers of the Cincinnati Open confirmed that the iconic sisters have been awarded a main-draw wild card for the women’s doubles event. This marks their first appearance as a team since the 2022 US Open, where their campaign ended with a first-round defeat.

Tennis fans were initially expecting the pair to reunite at Wimbledon earlier this season. However, a lingering knee injury forced Serena to withdraw from the tournament shortly before its commencement, putting those plans on hold. The upcoming Cincinnati Open will now serve as the backdrop for their long-awaited comeback.

According to reporting by Reuters, 46-year-old Venus Williams is also scheduled to feature in the singles draw at Cincinnati. Meanwhile, whether the 44-year-old Serena will participate in the singles event remains unconfirmed.

The Williams sisters represent one of the most dominant and successful partnerships in the history of women’s tennis. Together, they have captured 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, including six triumphs at Wimbledon. Their international achievements also extend to the Olympic stage, where they earned three Gold Medals in women’s doubles.
