Hansi Flick’s Barcelona extended their flawless start to the La Liga campaign, producing a ruthless attacking display to dismantle Valencia 5-0 away from home. A double from teenage sensation Lamine Yamal, alongside strikes from Fermín López, Raphinha, and Pedri, sealed a comfortable victory at the Mestalla, consolidating Barcelona’s position at the top of the table with a maximum of 12 points from four matches.
From the opening whistle, the Catalan giants dictated tempo and territory, starving the hosts of possession and carving out openings at will. Barcelona controlled 74 per cent of the ball throughout the contest and registered 10 shots on target, leaving Valencia struggling to construct any meaningful counter-attacks.
The visitors breached Valencia’s defensive line after just six minutes. Lamine Yamal collected a precise pass from Fermীন López, neatly sidestepped a defender, and dispatched a clinical first-time finish into the net. Yamal thought he had doubled his tally two minutes later when he found the net again, though the assistant referee’s flag correctly ruled the effort out for offside.
Barcelona’s relentless pressure yielded a second goal in the 22nd minute. López turned from provider to scorer, driving a low diagonal shot past the Valencia goalkeeper and into the far corner. Valencia briefly threatened when a defensive error from Rodri gifted Arnaut Danjuma a sight of goal, but Barcelona goalkeeper Joan García reacted smartly to preserve the clean sheet. Further opportunities fell to Yamal and López before the interval, but both attempts drifted narrowly wide.
The second half brought no respite for the home side. Five minutes after the restart, López turned creator once more, sliding a delicate pass through to Raphinha, who tapped home Barcelona’s third. The Brazilian forward’s strike marked his sixth league goal of the campaign—and his 50th career goal in La Liga—continuing a rich vein of form that has seen him score in three consecutive matches.
Flick’s men continued to push forward. Rodri hit the crossbar with a powerful header, whilst Anthony Gordon and Raphinha both went close. The fourth goal arrived in the 79th minute when Dani Olmo teed up Pedri, who unleashed a thunderous strike from distance. Following the goal, Flick introduced new Brazilian signing Gabriel Jesus for his official debut.
Yamal put the finishing touches on an emphatic performance in the 84th minute, cutting inside to notch his second of the match and wrap up a dominant 5-0 triumph. With four wins from four, Barcelona sit comfortably atop La Liga on 12 points, three ahead of arch-rivals Real Madrid on nine.
