A young man was allegedly beaten to death by a group of people in the Raipura upazila of Narsingdi district. Law enforcement authorities have confirmed the launch of a formal investigation, though the exact motive behind the violent assault remains unclear. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Nasir Miah, a resident of Jangli Shibpur village under the Uttar Bakharnagar union of the upazila. The unexpected killing has sparked considerable tension and anxiety among the local residents in the rural neighbourhood.
According to local residents and eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at approximately 8:00 pm when a group of individuals suddenly intercepted Nasir. The attackers began to assault him indiscriminately with blunt objects, leaving him severely wounded on the ground. Hearing his cries, nearby villagers rushed to the spot, causing the assailants to flee into the darkness. Upon receiving information, a team from the Raipura Police Station arrived at the scene, rescued the critically injured youth, and transported him to the Raipura Upazila Health Complex. However, the attending medical officer pronounced him dead upon arrival, noting that severe internal haemorrhaging from the blunt-force trauma appeared to be the primary cause of death.
In the immediate aftermath of the attack, police officers, the family of the deceased, and local residents were unable to ascertain the underlying reasons for the confrontation or establish the identities of the perpetrators. Grieving family members assembled at the hospital, demanding a swift and thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
MD Majibur Rahman, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipura Police Station, stated that law enforcement officials are actively interrogating family members and close associates of the victim to uncover any potential leads. Investigators are looking into various angles, including potential previous enmities, local disputes, or sudden provocations that might have led to the fatal lynching. Special police teams have also been deployed to scan the area and gather intelligence on the suspects.
Following the completion of preliminary legal formalities, including the preparation of the inquest report, the body was dispatched to the Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Police officials noted that the definitive cause of death would be established once the autopsy report is finalised, adding that a formal murder case is currently being filed by the victim’s family at the local station.
