At least 23 Afghan Taliban fighters have been killed in Pakistani military attacks over the past two days. Pakistan’s media outlet The News reported this on Sunday (7 December).
The media outlet claimed that a reliable source confirmed the deaths occurred along the Chaman border in Balochistan.
According to the report, Afghan forces violated the ceasefire late Friday night by opening fire with small arms in the Zaman sector along the border.
Pakistani troops immediately responded, initially using light weapons. The exchange of fire continued for around 45 minutes.
To prevent Taliban fighters from mounting an effective counterattack, heavy weapons were later deployed, including rocket launchers, artillery and heavy firearms. As a result of the attack, three Afghan Taliban border posts were completely destroyed.
One source said, “Precision weapons were used to ensure that ordinary Afghan civilians were not harmed.”
Sources further claimed that after the initial attack, Afghan fighters moved into densely populated areas and fired from there. In response, Pakistani forces carried out attacks using heavy weapons even in those populated areas.
