I Don’t See Any Possibility of a Fair Election Under Yunus Government: Zillur Rahman

Political analyst and presenter Zillur Rahman has said that he does not see any possibility of a fair election under the government of Professor Muhammad Yunus. According to him, the current government cannot be considered neutral, nor does it have the capacity to conduct a good election. He also remarked that the relationship between the government and the administration is not very close.

He added that there is a visible tension between the government and the armed forces. “No matter what the government says, we can see that it does not give much importance to the police,” he commented.
He made these remarks in a recent video on his YouTube channel.

Zillur Rahman said, “Even if an election is held, can it really be called an election? A true election should be competitive, participatory, free, fair, peaceful, inclusive, and internationally acceptable.” He further stated that for Bangladesh’s economic, political, social, and diplomatic progress, a credible election is urgently needed.

He explained, “When I say I don’t see an election, that doesn’t mean I don’t want one. I have long been calling for an election, and the sooner it is held, the better for the country.”

Zillur mentioned that Professor Yunus is now saying the election is a big challenge and that a major crisis could occur at any time. “A few days ago, government officials said no power on earth could postpone the election. Now the head of the government is saying that a big blow could come anytime—what does that mean? People are being made fearful and anxious. This shows that even the government itself is unsure whether it can conduct a proper election,” he said.

He further noted that when Professor Yunus mentioned holding elections in February, he had earlier said that if elections were held then, ballot boxes would be snatched and the police were not yet ready. “Has the police become ready now? No matter how much the Election Commission discusses with the police, nothing seems to be properly organized,” he added.
