Flights Resume at US Capital Airport Following ‘Security’ Incident

Aviation authorities have announced the resumption of operations at Washington’s Reagan National Airport following a temporary suspension prompted by a bomb threat investigation, according to US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.

Earlier on Tuesday, all flights at the airport—situated close to the centre of the US capital—had been halted under a ground stop order. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) attributed the suspension to “security reasons.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Secretary Duffy revealed that the alert was linked to a United Airlines flight arriving from Houston. “The flight landed safely at DCA, passengers were evacuated, and law enforcement conducted a full search of the aircraft,” he stated.

Duffy confirmed that the airport had since been given “the all clear,” allowing normal operations to resume.

Footage aired by local media showed a United Airlines aircraft positioned on an auxiliary taxiway surrounded by multiple police vehicles. Reagan National Airport also confirmed via X that passengers from the affected flight had been “offloaded and bussed to the terminal.”

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the origin of the threat or whether any arrests were made, but investigations are reported to be continuing.
