The Bangladesh Cricket Board has issued an official clarification after the exclusion of several local players from the BPL Season 12 auction list triggered widespread debate. In a media statement released on Saturday, the BPL Governing Council explained why a number of cricketers had been left out, despite being regular features in recent seasons.
According to the board, an independent investigation committee submitted its report to the BCB President earlier this month. Following the report, several matters linked to potential corruption were immediately forwarded to the newly formed Integrity Unit. This unit, headed by independent chair Alex Marshall, is responsible for conducting a fully autonomous review of the findings.
The BCB stated that it treats corruption allegations with the utmost seriousness. On the recommendation of the Integrity Unit’s independent chair, a number of individuals – including some players – were not invited to take part in this year’s tournament. Although the board refrained from revealing their names, the absence of several high-profile cricketers has raised questions among supporters and franchise officials alike.
The Governing Council stressed that the step is a precautionary measure strictly limited to the BPL context. The intention is to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation and safeguard the reputation of the tournament. The ruling does not apply to other domestic competitions run by the BCB, meaning affected cricketers remain eligible for those events.
The statement also noted that it would be inappropriate, at this stage, to comment publicly on any individual case, as the Integrity Unit is still conducting its own investigation. Once the review is completed, further details may be communicated.
The development has fueled debate within the cricket community. Many supporters are demanding greater transparency, while others feel the board’s cautious strategy is justified given the sensitivity of the issues involved. The BCB reiterated that it is committed to providing fans with a clean and transparent tournament and will take all necessary steps to maintain the credibility of the BPL.
As the BPL auction approaches, the absence of several notable names has added an unexpected layer of tension. Franchises may now be forced to rethink their strategies, while players affected by the decision await clarity on their long-term prospects. The outcome of the Integrity Unit’s investigation may have far-reaching consequences for both the players and the future structure of the league.
