Jamā‘at Leader Expelled Over Disturbing Messages

In a significant disciplinary move, Hafiz Nurullah, the leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami in Ranapasha Union, Nalchiti Upazila, Jhalokathi, has been expelled from the organisation following allegations of sending inappropriate messages and harassing the wife of a student living abroad.

The district branch of Jamaat-e-Islami conducted an internal investigation into the matter and formally announced Nurullah’s expulsion on Saturday, 6 December.

Nurullah, the son of Maulana Amjad Hossain from Tentulbaria village, serves as a teacher at an independent Ibteda’i (primary) Madrasah in Krishnakathi, Jhalokathi Sadar Upazila. The allegations claim that he sent indecent messages to the mobile phone of a student’s mother, whose spouse works overseas. This act reportedly triggered outrage among the student’s family, resulting in a physical confrontation with Nurullah.

Some portions of his confession regarding the incident were briefly circulated on social media through a Facebook video. Although the video was quickly deleted, it had already attracted widespread attention online.

Secretary of the Ranapasha Union Jamaat, Syed Mohammad Abdus Salam, confirmed the details of the expulsion and emphasised that the organisation does not tolerate behaviour that breaches ethical or moral standards. Further, Jhalokathi district Jamaat Secretary Mohammad Faridul Haque told reporters, “Jamaat-e-Islami does not condone conduct that falls outside the bounds of morality and discipline. Due to the violation of party discipline, the organisational decision to expel him was taken.”

The incident has sparked discussion in the local community, with residents and social media users highlighting the growing concern over the behaviour of some officials who hold positions of trust. The Jamaat leadership reiterated that all members, regardless of rank, must uphold the moral and ethical standards of the organisation.
