Arsenal’s Champions League campaign soared to new heights as the English giants maintained a perfect record with a convincing 3–0 win over Club Brugge. The triumph not only kept them at the summit of their group but marked them as the sole team with six victories from six matches.
The encounter began energetically, with Arsenal establishing control through crisp passing and coordinated pressing. Ødegaard’s early strike required an athletic save from the Brugge goalkeeper, signalling the pressure to come. Soon after, Piero Hincapié rattled the post following a corner, further intensifying the hosts’ concerns.
Arsenal’s opener was inevitable. In the 25th minute, Noni Madueke showcased superb individual brilliance. Collecting a well-weighted pass, he executed a sharp turn, bypassed his marker and unleashed a powerful shot from outside the area. The ball rocketed into the net, ending the deadlock and handing Arsenal a deserved lead.
Brugge attempted to counter with quick attacks, but their efforts fizzled due to Arsenal’s disciplined defensive structure. Declan Rice shielded the backline effectively, intercepting multiple passes and dictating the tempo from deep midfield.
The second half began with Arsenal doubling their lead. Zubimendi launched a perfectly timed cross from the left flank, allowing Madueke to sprint into position and nod home his second goal. The winger’s anticipation, agility and precision made the finish appear effortless.
Just ten minutes later, Martinelli added a third. After winning the ball near the final third, he drove forward and smashed a fierce strike into the bottom corner from outside the box. Arsenal’s fluidity in attack, combined with their defensive resilience, left Brugge helpless.
Meanwhile, PSG continued to struggle in Europe. Their 0–0 draw against Athletic Bilbao highlighted glaring deficiencies in their finishing ability. Despite controlling the match with 72% possession, the Parisian outfit lacked creativity in the final third. Mbappé endured a quiet match, and despite numerous shots, PSG could not break through Bilbao’s disciplined defence.
With six matches played, PSG remain third on 13 points—a precarious position for defending champions. Bilbao, though far behind, earned a respectable point from a far stronger opponent.
Elsewhere across Europe, Juventus defeated Pafos 2–0 with an assertive performance. Bayer Leverkusen and Newcastle played out a pulsating 2–2 battle. Benfica overcame Napoli 2–0 in a tactical masterclass. Dortmund shared a 2–2 draw with Bodø/Glimt, while Manchester City edged past Real Madrid 2–1. Copenhagen produced the surprise of the evening with a 3–2 victory away to Villarreal.
Arsenal’s season, both domestically and in Europe, reflects a team growing in maturity and confidence. PSG, on the other hand, find themselves under increasing pressure as expectations collide with inconsistencies.
