Deadly Clash Erupts Over Burnt Khichuri

A deadly confrontation broke out in Shunderganj Upazila, Ghaibandha, over the distribution of burnt khichuri during an annual urs festival. On Wednesday morning (17 December), in the Shreepur Union’s Shokher Bazar area, a 60-year-old man, Ahmad Ali, tragically lost his life. Ali, a resident of Noyon Sukh village and the son of Apil Munsi, was a respected local homeopathic practitioner dedicated to serving his community.

According to Superintendent of Police Tajul Islam of Shunderganj, the annual urs took place on Tuesday night at Murshid’s Bazar. Food, including khichuri, was prepared for the attending devotees. After the event, while returning home, a local man named Mun Mia brought a packet of khichuri to his shop and handed it to Ahmad Ali. The following morning, when Ahmad Ali approached Mun Mia regarding the khichuri, he complained that it was burnt and unfit for consumption. A verbal altercation soon escalated.

The dispute quickly turned violent when Mun Mia and his associates physically assaulted Ahmad Ali, striking him with fists and kicks. Ali sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by locals. Unfortunately, the attending doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

SP Tajul Islam confirmed that Ahmad Ali’s body has been recovered, and preparations are underway to file a formal case at the local police station. He urged the community to remain calm and warned that all individuals involved will be brought to justice under the law.

The incident has sparked fear among local residents, prompting swift directives from authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly. Preliminary reports suggest that the violent clash stemmed from tensions over food distribution and underlying personal disputes.
