District police in Cumilla have apprehended 93 suspected drug dealers in a sweeping 24-hour anti-narcotics operation spanning every police station across the district. The coordinated drive saw law enforcement units conduct 44 simultaneous raids targeting established trafficking networks, local peddlers, and supply dens.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Ishtiaque Hasan Ameen confirmed the details to the press on Friday afternoon, outlining the results of the intensive regional campaign initiated on Thursday.
During the coordinated raids, operational teams seized 1,517 yaba tablets, 72 kilograms of cannabis, cash proceeds generated from illicit narcotics transactions, and a range of paraphernalia used for drug consumption and distribution. The raids were planned to strike multiple tiers of the local drug trade, targeting commercial suppliers, retail couriers, and habitual consumers.
Legal proceedings were initiated immediately against all 93 suspects through regular criminal cases, summary trials in judicial magistrate courts, and executive actions via mobile courts. Several of the arrested individuals received immediate custodial prison sentences and monetary fines under executive magistracy proceedings, while other suspects face formal investigation and trial under the Narcotics Control Act.
The intensified crackdown forms part of a broader, district-wide offensive launched on 16 August under the directives of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for the Chattogram Range, with operational supervision provided directly by the Superintendent of Police in Cumilla. Police authorities have adopted a strict zero-tolerance posture toward organised drug trafficking networks operating within the region, which often serves as a transit route for cross-border contraband.
Briefing reporters on the operation, Additional Superintendent Ishtiaque Hasan Ameen emphasised that law enforcement agencies will not compromise when dismantling narcotics supply chains. He stated that the 44 coordinated raids conducted over the preceding 24 hours reflect the continuous enforcement strategy underway across the district. He noted that regular cases, mobile court adjudications, and formal judicial procedures are being employed in tandem to ensure swift accountability. The district police confirmed that these special operations will continue with increased intensity across all urban centres, border corridors, and rural neighbourhoods in Cumilla.
