Jagannath University (JnU) is set to conduct its undergraduate (Honours) and BBA first-year admission examinations for the 2024–25 academic session, with the ‘A’ and ‘C’ unit tests scheduled for Friday, 26 December, and Saturday, 27 December respectively. The ‘A’ Unit represents the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences, while the ‘C’ Unit covers the Faculty of Business Studies.
According to university authorities, both examinations will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon, lasting one hour each. Given the exceptionally high number of applicants, extensive logistical and administrative preparations have been completed to ensure that the examinations are conducted smoothly and fairly.
This year, the ‘A’ Unit has attracted intense competition, with 72,474 candidates applying for just 860 available seats across science-related disciplines. Meanwhile, the ‘C’ Unit has received 20,537 applications for 520 seats under the Business Studies faculty. The figures highlight the growing demand for places at Jagannath University, one of the country’s leading public institutions.
To ease travel difficulties for candidates, the ‘A’ Unit examination will be conducted at a total of 12 centres. In addition to nine centres within Dhaka, three examination centres have been set up outside the capital at Comilla University, Khulna University, and Rajshahi University. Within Dhaka, exams will be held at Jagannath University itself and several prominent educational institutions, including Dhaka University, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, and Dhaka Collegiate School.
For the ‘C’ Unit, examinations will be organised exclusively within Dhaka. Apart from Jagannath University, three additional centres—Banglabazar Government Girls’ High School, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, and Government Muslim High School—have been designated.
The admission test carries a total of 100 marks. Of these, 72 marks will be based on multiple-choice questions (MCQs), while the remaining 18 marks will be allocated based on candidates’ SSC and HSC (or equivalent) examination results. The ‘A’ Unit question paper will include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Biology, while the ‘C’ Unit will assess English, Mathematical Reasoning, Accounting, and Business Principles and Applications.
Speaking on preparedness, Professor Dr Parimal Bala, Dean of the Faculty of Science, stated that all arrangements have been finalised, noting that the inclusion of centres outside Dhaka aims to reduce hardship for examinees. Similarly, Professor Dr Muhammad Manjur Murshed Bhuiyan, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies, confirmed that no centres have been allocated outside Dhaka for the ‘C’ Unit.
Earlier, the ‘E’ Unit admission test for the Faculty of Fine Arts was held on 13 December. Upcoming examinations include the ‘D’ Unit (Social Sciences) on 9 January and the ‘B’ Unit (Arts and Law) on 30 January.
