According to official military statements, the pre-emptive bombardment was executed specifically to prevent an Iranian aircraft from landing at the facility.
The capital city, Sanaa, remains under the administrative and military control of the Iran-aligned Houthi rebel movement. The Houthi leadership responded to the destruction of the civilian aviation facility with fierce condemnation, promising a swift and disproportionate military response. Houthi military spokesperson Yahya
