Bangladesh received 1.325 billion US dollars in inward remittances during the first 12 days of July, indicating a robust start to the new financial year. Data released by the central bank highlights a steady momentum in expatriate earnings, which remain a vital lifeline for the nation’s foreign exchange reserves and macroeconomic stability.

According to Arif Hossain Khan, the spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, the total remittance volume recorded between 1 July and 12 July reflects a daily average inflow of 110.4 million dollars. This represents a substantial year-on-year increase compared to the same period last year, when the country registered 1.071 billion dollars in foreign currency inflows from non-resident Bangladeshis. The positive trajectory underscores the growing preference among migrant workers for formal banking channels, driven by recent policy interventions and exchange rate alignments.

The strong performance in early July follows a series of high-volume months in the preceding half of the calendar year. In June, expatriates sent home 2.817 billion dollars, a figure traditionally bolstered by the festival of Eid-ul-Adha, when migrant workers typically transfer higher amounts to their families for celebratory expenses and livestock purchases.

Prior to that, May witnessed an influx of 3.425 billion dollars, which stands as the second-highest monthly remittance total in the financial history of Bangladesh. The highest-ever monthly record was shattered earlier in March, when the country drew in an unprecedented 3.755 billion dollars, propelled by pre-Ramadan and pre-Eid financial preparations.

The consistently high inflows throughout the first half of the year have provided a much-needed buffer for the economy. In April, the remittance volume reached 3.127 billion dollars, while February and January recorded 3.020 billion dollars and 3.170 billion dollars respectively. This period of sustained inflows marks a notable recovery from late last year, which saw 3.226 billion dollars in December and 2.889 billion dollars in November.
