Iran Threatens Full-Scale Defence Against Attack

Amid rising tensions with the United States, Iran’s military has announced it is on “maximum defensive alert” and fully prepared to confront any form of aggression, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The statement comes as concerns mount over possible US military intervention following nationwide protests in Iran.

Speaking to state-run Fars News Agency on Wednesday, IRGC Air Force Commander Sardar Mousavi confirmed that Iranian forces are fully mobilised and ready to respond. He emphasised that Iran’s missile arsenal has been significantly reinforced compared to the period before June’s 12-day conflict with Israel. Any losses from that engagement have now been repaired, and the military is reportedly operating at peak readiness.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Brigadier General Aziz Nasirzadeh issued a stark warning to potential aggressors. “If these threats materialise, we will defend our country with full force and fight to the last drop of blood,” he told a meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. He added that any nation aiding attacks against Iran would become a legitimate target.

Iran’s Military Posture and Readiness

Aspect Details
Alert Status Maximum defensive readiness across all branches
Missile Stockpile Increased since June Israel conflict; losses repaired
Defence Strategy “Painful” retaliation for any attack; full mobilisation
Regional Warning Allies of aggressors could become legitimate targets
Counterattack Capability Potential strikes on US military bases in Middle East

The ongoing threat of military action has led to a suspension of high-level communications between the United States and Iran. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that talks between Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US special envoy Steve Witkoff are currently on hold. The suspension coincides with intensified threats from US President Donald Trump, who has indicated possible intervention in response to domestic unrest in Iran.

Following two weeks of deadly protests, Iranian authorities have tightened control domestically, while issuing clear warnings to Washington and its regional allies. Tehran has stressed that any attack on its territory would be met with a strong and immediate response, including potential counterstrikes on US military installations across the Middle East.

Analysts warn that the combination of heightened military readiness, disrupted diplomatic channels, and the robust warning from Iran’s leadership could further escalate tensions in the region. The situation remains volatile, with the possibility of direct confrontation between the United States and Iran looming.
