Barisal, 26 January 2026: In a tragic incident that has shocked the local community, 21-year-old Sharmin Akter Mim reportedly took her own life in the early hours of Sunday, 25 January. Her body was discovered at approximately 2:00 a.m. in Nahar Mansion on Baptist Mission Road, Barisal city.

According to police and local sources, Mim, a resident of Kushangol village in Nalchiti Upazila, Jhalokathi District, was employed at a clothing showroom located on Police Lines Road in Barisal city. She was the daughter of Md. Lal Mia.

Eyewitness reports indicate that the young woman allegedly hanged herself while on a video call with her boyfriend. Authorities were alerted shortly after the incident, and her body was retrieved from Sultan’s sublet apartment in Nahar Mansion, situated near Khalifa House on Baptist Mission Road.

The Kotwali Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Al Mamun Ul Islam, confirmed that the body had been taken to the morgue of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. “If the family lodges a formal complaint, the police will proceed with the necessary legal actions,” he added.

This heartbreaking event has raised concerns about mental health awareness, particularly among young adults. While the exact circumstances that led to her death remain under investigation, police have appealed to the public to refrain from speculation until all facts are established.
