In a bizarre turn of events that underscores the unpredictable nature of domestic disputes, a celebratory wedding ceremony in the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, India, descended into a violent brawl. The catalyst for the mayhem was none other than the bride’s pet dog, leading to a bloody confrontation that prematurely halted the festivities. Yet, in a twist worthy of a cinematic script, the bride has since defied her family to reunite with her groom.
The protagonists of this drama are Tanya Kesharwani, a resident of Prayagraj, and Sumit, who hails from Kanpur. The couple had originally eloped in January to marry in secret. Seeking to bridge the familial rift, both sets of parents eventually agreed to host a formal, social wedding ceremony on 18 February in Fatehpur.
The atmosphere was festive until approximately 4:00 am during the Goyna (jewellery gifting) ritual. Suddenly, Tanya’s pet dog began to bark incessantly. A young man from the groom’s party, reportedly annoyed by the noise, struck the animal. This act ignited an immediate and fierce verbal altercation between the two factions.
The disagreement rapidly escalated from insults to physical violence. Armed with chairs, sticks, and whatever household objects were at hand, the two families engaged in a full-scale riot. Witnesses described the scene as a “battlefield,” with the joy of the union replaced by the sounds of shattering furniture and screams.
| Incident Detail | Data / Outcome |
|---|---|
| Total Injured | 8 individuals (including women) |
| Severe Injuries | 3 members of the bride’s party (Head trauma) |
| Police Involvement | Khaga Police Station |
| Initial Resolution | Families agreed to “cancel” the marriage |
| Location | Fatehpur District, Uttar Pradesh |
Following the clash, both parties marched to the Khaga Police Station. Amidst the blood and bruises, the elders reached a mutual—though bitter—agreement to terminate the marriage social rites and sever ties between the families.
However, Tanya refused to be a pawn in the feud. Five days after the ceremony collapsed, she abandoned her home in Prayagraj and travelled alone to Sumit’s residence in Kanpur. Though initially met with resistance, she stood her ground, asserting her rights as a wife.
In a poignant video shared on social media, Tanya clarified that their legal marriage was already binding from their earlier elopement; the Fatehpur event was merely a ceremonial formality. She declared that no family quarrel—let alone one sparked by a pet—would separate them. Overcoming the trauma of the “Law and Justice” (আইন ও বিচার) complications and social stigma, she has now been accepted into her in-laws’ home, proving that affection can occasionally triumph over the most absurd of conflicts.
