Bangladesh Clinch Thrilling Series Against Pakistan

In a dramatic finale to the three-match ODI series, Bangladesh edged past Pakistan by 11 runs, securing a 2-1 series victory at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Defending a challenging total of 291, Bangladesh’s pace attack struck early to dismantle Pakistan’s batting lineup, while veteran Salman Ali Agha held the innings together, almost steering the visitors to an improbable win.

This victory marks a historic achievement for Bangladesh, as they have now won consecutive ODI series against Pakistan. The last bilateral series between the two sides was in 2015, when Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan 3-0.

Pakistan Stumbles Early

Chasing 291, Pakistan found themselves in trouble almost immediately. Bangladesh pacers Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana exploited early conditions superbly, reducing the visitors to 17 for 3 within the first few overs. Taskin bowled out Sahibzada Farhan (6) in the very first over, while Nahid trapped Maz Sadakat (6) in the next. Taskin returned to dismiss Rizwan (4) in his second over, putting Pakistan firmly on the back foot.

Attempts to stabilise the innings by Gazi Ghuri and Abdul Samad offered little resistance. Ghuri made 29 off 39 balls and Samad scored 34 from 45 deliveries before falling, leaving Pakistan five wickets down at just over 100 runs.

Salman Ali Agha Leads the Fightback

The innings’ backbone came in the form of Salman Ali Agha, who partnered first with Sadiq Masud. The duo put together 79 runs, but Masud was dismissed for 38, bowled by Mustafizur Rahman. Salman continued his resilient display alongside Shahin Shah Afridi, reaching both a half-century and a century, keeping Pakistan in contention. Taskin Ahmed ended Salman’s innings at 106, but by then, Pakistan were still within striking distance. Shahin, playing aggressively in the 49th over, hit two sixes, bringing Pakistan tantalisingly close to victory. Nevertheless, Pakistan’s innings concluded at 279, falling short by 11 runs.

Bangladesh Bowling Brilliance

Bangladesh’s bowlers were exceptional, with Taskin Ahmed leading the charge, claiming four wickets. Mustafizur Rahman took three wickets, while Nahid Rana captured two and Rishad Hossain took one.

Bowler Wickets Runs Conceded
Taskin Ahmed 4

Nahid Rana 2

Pakistan’s Haris Rauf was their most successful bowler with three wickets, while Abrar Ahmed and Shahin Shah Afridi took one wicket each.

Bangladesh Batting Highlights

Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat. They were off to a flying start with an opening partnership of 105 runs. Saifuddin made 36 off 55 balls before being bowled by Shahin Shah Afridi. Nazmul Hossain Shanto contributed 27 runs, falling to Haris Rauf.

Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim scored his maiden ODI century, registering 107 off 107 balls, including six fours and seven sixes. He formed a solid fourth-wicket partnership of 68 runs with Liton Kumar Das, who scored 41. Lower down, Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 48 from 44 balls, and Afif Hossain finished five not out, helping Bangladesh reach a formidable 290 for 6.
