The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran has issued a stark warning to the United States, asserting that Washington lacks the courage to enter the Persian Gulf and is instead seeking ways to end the ongoing conflict. According to IRGC officials, most of the missiles used so far against US and Israeli targets were developed nearly a decade ago, with more advanced weapons still held in reserve.
Brigadier General Ali Mohammad Naeini, spokesperson for the IRGC, conveyed these claims in an interview with Iranian state media. He stated that since the outbreak of hostilities on 28 February, nearly 700 missiles and 3,600 drone strikes have been launched as part of “Operation True Promise 4,” targeting what Iran describes as American and “Zionist” positions.
“The missiles currently in use were developed almost ten years ago,” Naeini explained. “Many more advanced weapons, manufactured during the past twelve days of conflict and in preparation for the Ramadan operations, have not yet been deployed.”
Naeini issued a direct warning to Washington, asserting that US naval forces do not dare approach the Persian Gulf, which he claims is fully under Iranian control. He stated that following a series of cruise missile attacks by the IRGC Navy and the Iranian military, American warships were forced to retreat 300–400 miles to the far end of the Gulf of Oman. According to the IRGC, the vessels sustained significant damage and required repairs, rendering them unable to participate in further operations.
The IRGC also claims that Iran has employed electronic warfare to target enemy radar systems, defensive installations, munitions depots, and aircraft, further limiting adversary capabilities.
Naeini suggested that the US had initially assumed Iran would collapse following the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on 28 February. “American intelligence agencies believed that his death would trigger political instability, internal conflict, and social disorder,” he said. “In reality, the adversary now faces doubt, frustration, and confusion.”
The IRGC spokesperson further alleged that the United States is effectively acknowledging its setbacks and exploring diplomatic channels to end hostilities. He noted that while former President Donald Trump publicly declared a readiness for swift conflict resolution, behind-the-scenes discussions now focus on how to negotiate an end to the war.
“Iran will continue to retaliate until the aggressors accept the full scope of its military and societal resilience. Only then can hostilities truly conclude,” Naeini said.

The IRGC’s statements highlight ongoing tensions in the Persian Gulf, emphasising Tehran’s claim of strategic control and projecting a narrative of US reluctance to escalate directly in the region.
