To ensure the safety of millions of homebound travellers during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr festivities, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has launched a comprehensive three-tier security operation across the capital. A total of 32 dedicated teams have been deployed at key terminals and surrounding areas, complemented by civil teams, regular patrols, and strategically placed checkpoints for continuous monitoring.
RAB-10 Commander and Additional Deputy Inspector General Mohammad Kamruzzaman disclosed the details at a press briefing held on Tuesday (17 March) at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal in Dhaka. He emphasised that the enhanced security measures aim to maintain smooth travel for the substantial number of passengers leaving the city for the holiday.
The 32 RAB teams will operate continuously across major travel hubs including Sadarghat, Syedabad, Shyamoli, Sutrapur, and Kamrangirchar. Additionally, six civil teams have been assigned to gather intelligence and provide operational support. Regular patrols, “robust patrolling,” and foot patrols will be conducted to deter criminal activity, while temporary checkpoints will be set up as needed to inspect vehicles and individuals for any suspicious behaviour.
For the convenience of passengers, two control rooms have been established at Sadarghat Launch Terminal and Syedabad Bus Terminal. These will operate around the clock, allowing travellers to report harassment, fare extortion, or other grievances either in person or via telephone. RAB has assured that immediate action will be taken upon receiving any complaints.
In anticipation of the festive rush, RAB has intensified its investigative operations. Recent enforcement actions have led to the seizure of a foreign pistol and a substantial quantity of ammunition this month. Significant drug seizures have also been made through targeted operations against active narcotics networks.
Commander Kamruzzaman noted that nearly 14.5 million people are expected to leave Dhaka for their hometowns during Eid. This mass movement increases the risk of property crimes such as burglary, robbery, and snatching in the city. To mitigate these risks, RAB has increased 24-hour surveillance in critical areas, with particular emphasis on heightened night patrols.

|---|---|---|
| RAB Teams | 32 teams at key terminals and city points | Continuous operational presence |

RAB has reaffirmed that these measures will remain active throughout Eid and the immediate post-festival period, aiming to provide a secure environment for travellers and residents alike.
